About this print
Lord Krishna in close-darshan. The eyes that hold Vrindavan.
Of all the renderings of Lord Krishna, the close-up face is the hardest to get right. The eyes have to carry Yashoda's affection and Arjuna's counsel at the same time. The painter holds it here. Blue skin, saffron turban with the yellow lotus and the peacock feather, the tilak of the chaturbhuj Vaishnav line. A face old enough to know everything, young enough to still want to play.
Large-scale watercolour portrait, three-quarter angle. Blue-grey skin in soft wash, hazel-honey eyes, gold-emerald jhumka earrings, saffron pagdi with the bhramara peacock plume. The yellow uttariya draped on one shoulder, the M-mark on the central feather visible.
For the living room. The study. Any wall that holds an unhurried look.

A short letter from the studio
We started this because nobody was writing about Indian art the way we wanted to read it.
RareMango began in a one-room office in Bombay in 2022. Two of us, a printer that was always too hot, and a stubborn idea: that Indian wall art deserves a brand that talks about it the way friends talk about it, specific, warm, occasionally wrong, never bored.
Most of what you’ll find on this site is reproduction prints. Museum-grade, framed by our own team, attributed by region and school. Some of it is original work by named artists. All of it is curated, not collected. If a piece is on our site, it’s because we’d hang it on our own walls.
