In Awadh, the jharokha was the latticed window the women of the haveli looked through. A corridor of jharokhas was the spine of the haveli itself, a line of arches you walked through to reach the courtyard at the far end. The print holds that corridor as a single picture.
A receding sequence of scalloped arches in terracotta-and-charcoal cuts through the centre of the print. Each arch frames the next, smaller, and the courtyard at the far end is always one step further than the eye expects. Hand-drawn florals run up the columns at left and right. The wash carries faint paper-grain and a soft fade across the depth of field.

We started this because nobody was writing about Indian art the way we wanted to read it.
RareMango began in a one-room office in Bombay in 2022. Two of us, a printer that was always too hot, and a stubborn idea: that Indian wall art deserves a brand that talks about it the way friends talk about it, specific, warm, occasionally wrong, never bored.
Most of what you’ll find on this site is reproduction prints, museum-grade, framed by our own team, attributed by region and school. Some of it is original work by named artists. All of it is curated, not collected. If a piece is on our site, it’s because we’d hang it on our own walls.
