Swans were imported into Indian painting from the Persian-Mughal exchange. They became the bird that figures in dawn and dusk paintings, water-bound, white where the rest of the palette is dark. This print sits in that line.
A scalloped jharokha cut into a deep-night-blue field, opening onto a moonlit lake. Inside the arch, two swans float in the lower foreground, a small Mughal chhatri pavilion sits behind them on the far bank, with a peacock perched on a side-arch beside it. Lotus pads with pink lotus, white lily, foliage. The whole composition is calm in the manner of a room that has just been swept.

We started this because nobody was writing about Indian art the way we wanted to read it.
RareMango began in a one-room office in Bombay in 2022. Two of us, a printer that was always too hot, and a stubborn idea: that Indian wall art deserves a brand that talks about it the way friends talk about it, specific, warm, occasionally wrong, never bored.
Most of what you’ll find on this site is reproduction prints. Museum-grade, framed by our own team, attributed by region and school. Some of it is original work by named artists. All of it is curated, not collected. If a piece is on our site, it’s because we’d hang it on our own walls.
